Swadhar Greh for women and children
Goal
Protecting and rehabilitating women and children between the age of 18 and 59 under difficult circumstances.
Objectives
- To create awareness in the community for care and protection of women and children who are under difficult circumstances.
- To provide intuitional support and rehabilitate women under difficult circumstances.
- To provide food, clothing, medical facilities and entertainment to the inmates.
- To counsel and rehabilitate women and to provide vocational training for 30 women.
- To establish network with other Free Legal Aid, NGOs and other Government Deportment.
Achievements
Under the support of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, our Swadhar Greh is located at Gudalur of The Nilgris. Our Centre has been serving 30 women and children who come out of difficult circumstances. 48 inmates were newly admitted and 46 inmates were discharged. Out of 46 discharged cases, 14 were restored with spouse, 4 with parents, 6 with relatives, 1 inmate were arranged for employment in private concern and 1 got legal support through District Free Legal Aid.
Shelter, food, clothing, medical facilities, vocational training, counselling and rehabilitation are the major components and services rendered to women being referred to our Swadhar GrehThe inmates were given vocational trainings in the trade of tailoring, Basket making, Embroidering, Paper cover making and embroidery work. Medical officers visits the home four times in a month and examine their health on a regular basis. The programme focused on women rights, legal provisions, domestic violence act 2005, dowry act, marriage act and functions of various allied systems such as Free Legal Aid, services of All Women Police Station and women helpline. Organized 4 Home committee meetings and discussed on rehabilitation of clients, quality of services, restoration issues and legal support.
At this reporting period, 37 Home visits and 46 Follow up were done and found persons self-employed and leading a happy life. The project has strong network with line department and thereby organized ample of awareness programmes in coordination with Social Welfare Department, Free Legal Aid, All women police station and De addiction center. The Field Officer from CSWB, the District Social Welfare Officer, Thiruvarur and the District Supply Officer have visited the Home several times, interacted with clients about the services, verified the documents and given guidance.
Family Counselling Center
Family Counselling Centre has been supported by Central Social Welfare Board. Under the instruction of Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board, our FCC has been functioning in RDO office, Gudalur. Our counsellor has been allotted a counselling room to attend the clients visiting our centre. Our centre has been functioning effectively with the guidance & coordination of the District administration in the identification of clients. This family counselling center focuses on misunderstanding problems, suspiciousness, unemployment, depression, love affair, extra marital affair, pre-marital problem, dowry problem etc. The family counselling center help the individual for an enhanced level of functioning when they are unable to cope with the problem brought in by these changes. During the reporting year, around 178 clients have been counselled. Follow up is also done by our counsellors through telephone, personal visit and communication through mail. Our family counselling center aims at reducing the problems and crisis, strengthening family coping skills, effecting positive changes in the attitude, improvement in life style, providing timely counselling and support to lead a qualitative life style.
